Security
Security is considered throughout system design, delivery, and operation. The practices below describe our engineering approach and are tailored to each engagement. They are not a claim of certification or an assurance that every control applies to every project.
Design and delivery
We assess data flows, trust boundaries, failure modes, and payment-specific risks during scoping. Delivery plans can include code review, test coverage, dependency review, and production readiness checks appropriate to the system.
For payment systems, we consider message integrity, idempotency, reconciliation, safe retries, and separation of duties. Architecture is informed by relevant PCI DSS requirements where payment data is in scope; any formal compliance obligation is determined separately with the client.
Access, secrets, and data
Our preferred designs use least-privilege access, separate environments, managed secrets, and encrypted transport. Encryption at rest, key management, retention, and audit logging are specified for the actual data and hosting environment.
We favour data minimisation and explicit data handling responsibilities. POPIA-aware delivery practices and controls informed by ISO 27001 can guide design, without implying an audited or certified status.
Production operations
A production handover should define change approval, rollback, incident contacts, logging, backup and recovery expectations, and ownership of monitoring. AWS designs can be assessed against Well-Architected principles and relevant AWS security services.
These controls must be agreed and implemented in the client environment; their presence depends on the scope of work.
Responsible vulnerability reporting
If you believe this website has a security issue, email contact@patternpurge.co.za with a concise description and a safe reproduction path. Please avoid accessing other people's data or disrupting the service. We will acknowledge reports through the same contact channel.
Our security.txt provides a machine-readable contact.
